HotBot 对登录规则并无太多描述，只对作弊行为作出了一些含糊的说明：

We're aware that some people create pages to maliciously "spoof" search engines - making search engines return pages that are irrelevant to the search at hand or pages that rank higher than their content warrants. Common spoofing techniques include the senseless repetition of words, the inserting of META tags unrelated to the document's content, or the use of words that cannot be read due to their small size or color. If HotBot recognizes any spoofing technique, it will severely penalize a page's ranking.

HotBot 不支持框架视图与图像地图，能索引所有可视文本及支持 Meta 标签，不支持 Alt 标签。 HotBot 的spider 不是深层搜索 spider，所以，您在登录时，除了提交根 目录，也最好将子目录网址一并提交。

Basic factors affecting a page's ranking are: the words in the title, keyword META tags, word frequency in the document, and document length.
